TODD FRUCHTERMAN

Todd M. Fruchterman, MD, PhD, is a physician, scientist, healthcare executive, and active member of the equestrian community. He brings to his work with US Equestrian a lifelong commitment to service, safety, teamwork, accountability, and excellence.

Todd currently serves as chair of USEF’s Human Safety and Equine Welfare Committee, a member of the Member Services Council, and a member of the Dressage Calendar Working Group. In these roles, he focuses on strengthening safety, member experience, and the overall effectiveness of the sport for equestrians, officials, volunteers, and the broader USEF community.

Todd’s involvement in equestrian sport began as a rider in his youth and has continued throughout his life. As a horse owner and devoted horse show dad, he has experienced the sport from multiple perspectives and has firsthand appreciation for the dedication of riders, trainers, owners, officials, organizers and volunteers who make it possible. He understands the commitment, teamwork, and support behind every competition and is particularly interested in identifying practical ways to make the sport safer, more welcoming, and stronger for its members while preserving the qualities that make equestrian sport unique.

His professional career spans medicine, medical technology, healthcare innovation, and executive leadership. Early in his journey, he worked as an EMT, firefighter, and special rescue technician, experiences that helped establish his lifelong commitment to service, teamwork, preparation, and safety. He earned his BA and MD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in physiology and biophysics from the University of Louisville focusing on surgery, trauma, and critical care.

Following his academic work, he held C-suite and senior leadership positions with Johnson & Johnson, Kinetic Concepts/Acelity, 3M Health Care, and Butterfly Network. His experience includes leading large organizations, building high-performing teams, developing innovative technologies, managing complex change, and translating scientific advances into practical solutions. At 3M, he served as President and General Manager of the $1.3 billion Critical & Chronic Care Solutions Division then helped architect and lead the $5 billion Medical Solutions Division. He later served as CEO of Butterfly Network, a medical diagnostics company where he expanded the company’s technology into veterinary medicine.

Todd has served on boards of directors of both public companies and non-profit organizations and participated in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary’s Innovation and Investment Summit, a year-long industry/government collaboration project.

Todd believes the continued growth of equestrian sport depends on listening to members, supporting participants at every level, and continually looking for ways to improve. He is particularly passionate about creating an environment in which safety, fairness, horsemanship, and excellence are consistently supported — and where both horses and people flourish.
