Duncan Peters DVM, MS, Dipl ACVSM grew up riding English in New England. He was a national champion in Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) and 3-time national champion intercollegiate United States Polo Association (USPA). He received his DVM in 1982 from the University of California-Davis and has been practicing sport horse medicine for over 40 years. In 2006, he developed the Sport Horse Division at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky.

Duncan has been an International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) certified member since 2008. He was an associate professor at Michigan State University from 2012-2015. He earned diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) in 2013. In 2015 he co-founded East West Equine Sports Medicine, providing veterinary services for private clients and hunter/jumper show circuits on the West and East Coasts.

He has been an active American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) member, serving on many committees and the board of directors. He has worked closely with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) on various committees, as a team veterinarian for the para dressage team at Paralympics and World Equestrian Games and as an evaluation veterinarian for the eventing, dressage, and endurance international teams. He is a multi-disciplined Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) veterinarian (jumping, dressage, driving, eventing) and was a member of the Veterinary Commission during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Ky. He has been inducted into the IHSA and International Veterinarians Hall of Fames and co-received the USHJA Peterson Award for equine care and welfare. He consults with many equine related companies and continues to actively ride horses.
